Baby. Chick. Chocolates.
Then came Eliana's birthday this year. We filled up a jar with M&Ms in the colors of the rainbow to add to the table decorations. At the end of the party as we were cleaning up I stared at the jar and thought to myself, what can I do with all those M&Ms? No one ate them! I figured we could just eat them, but I had something cuter in mind.
How cute are they? I mean seriously. It doesn't get any cuter that this.
To make these baby chick M&Ms you'll need yellow M&Ms (or any yellow candy), and edible food color markers (black and orange). I drew the chicks many different ways, but all of them have hair (orange "W"), eyes (black circles) and a beak (orange triangle). Some have legs, some have wings.
Here are some tips:
1. Grab a bunch of yellow M&Ms (or Sixlets).
2. Resist the urge to eat them immediately.
3. Commence drawing!
4. Admire your artwork.
5. Now eat! (don't they taste so much better than regular M&Ms? hehe)
These Baby Chick Chocolates would be a cute addition to a fun lunch too!
**please note that M&Ms are not completely peanut free or nut free, even the plain chocolate ones. They contain warnings on the label because they may contain peanuts due to cross contamination and shared equipment lines. As always with warnings, you are at your own risk. Even though Eliana's allergy isn't severe we now only buy Sixlets
(which are peanut/nut free) instead now after learning of her allergy. These Baby Chick Chocolates could be made with Sixlets too!**

DeleteThese are darling, but have to say I think someone has too much time on their hands Maybe send idea to M & M and have them do it next year. Maybe the white ones they have come out with (coconut?) could be painted to look like bunnies. Take care.

DeleteWhich edible food markers did you use? I bought the Wilton markers and they did not work. The baby chicks are adorable. I will keep this for next Easter if I can find a good brand of edible markers. I like one of the comments about making bunnies with the white m & m's too.

The edible food markers I have used on M&Ms are Wilton Food writers (I used those on the Ladybug M&Ms) and AmeriColor Gourmet Writers. Because of the chocolate hard coat you may have to do one part at a time and let it dry a little bit first (do the hair first then letting it dry for a second, then doing the eyes etc). Let me know if that works out!

Our Easter Sunday lunch has a chick theme this year so I just thought these were perfect. My legs and wings looked hopeless so I just did hair, beak and eyes, but I did all different hairstyles. They turned out so cute - thank you!
ReplyDeleteFor Nancy above - I bought food writers for this - I'm in Australia, so had to order online, so I got fineline Foodoodlers - they worked great, but I did all the black eyes first and then did all the orange hair and beaks, to let each bit dry so they wouldn't smudge.
I also did a couple of red ladybugs too as they are just so cute too. We are going to a friend's house next week, so I thought I might take the ladybugs to use up some of leftovers. I'm sure the kids will love them. What can I draw on the blue and green ones? lol
