Kids DIY Sun Crackers

Kids DIY Sun Crackers: A fun and creative snack for kids to make themselves!
The last few days the weather has been rainy and blah, which I don't know about you but it completely has an affect on my mood! So to bring in some sunshine Eliana and I made these Sun Crackers for a snack the other day! Eliana had loved when I made the DIY Turkey Snack Platter so I took my inspiration from there and went with suns. They were so much fun to make and we enjoyed eating them together! (I ate all the scraps.. she ate the cute suns hehe) :)
This was such a simple snack and could be made so many different ways! We used orange and yellow bell peppers for the sun rays, but you could easily use another fruit or vegetable.

To make the sun we used Ritz Whole Wheat crackers for the base.  Using my circle cutter I cut some cheddar cheese circles. Then with a mini square cutter I cut some squares with orange and yellow bell pepper. I used a knife and cut the square diagonally to make the sun rays. The eyes are edible candy eyes and the mouth is a chocolate sprinkle. Now, I must warn you. Not all chocolate sprinkles (or jimmies) are created equal. I will not say that I dug around my chocolate sprinkles looking for cute slightly curved ones that would make perfect mouths.. because who would do that? ;) For the platter below I made sure there was enough "materials" to make three Sun Crackers :)
To make your Kids DIY Sun Cracker Platter you will need:
Ritz Whole Wheat crackers
Cheese (I used cheddar)
edible candy eyes
Orange and Yellow Bell Pepper
chocolate sprinkles
Here is one of Eliana's suns that she ate right up :)
I think she did awesome! She had so much fun putting together this cute Mr. Sun and enjoyed making the rest. The best part was that she enjoyed eating it all up!

  2. It was worth digging around for just the right curved sprinkle for his/her mouth. Putting the sprinkle at an angle also made him look a bit mischeveous. I'm thinking about using thick chunks of yellow & orange cheese for the rays instead of the yellow & orange peppers (less expensive). Should work just fine.

Please tell Elaina she did a great job on hers.

  5. You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this matter to be actually something
which I think I would never understand. It seems too complicated
and extremely broad for me. I am looking forward
for your next post, I'll try to get the hang of it!
