A Fun and Simple Turtle Lunch!
My sister in law loves turtles, so we made this lunch for her and for Larry, who was a turtle she pet-sat for a friend a year ago. Eliana still talks about Larry the turtle as if it were yesterday and as if he was part of the family! Her memory never ceases to amaze me!This is a really easy and simple lunch to make and your kids will love it!
The Turtle is a ham and cheese sandwich made with a spinach tortilla cut with a turtle cookie cutter. His shell is a Granny Smith Apple, and the eyes are edible candies. I drew the mouth with a food marker. I had actually meant to detail the turtle shell (I was thinking of either using the food marker or carving the apple) so it looked a little plain to me -- but Eliana LOVED it and ate it all up. And ultimately that is all that really matters :)

ReplyDeleteThank you all!! :)
ReplyDeleteYou just got one of my votes this week on BBN for this lunch. I <3 the green tortilla & apple. So simple but looks like it took forever. VERY cute idea!
ReplyDeleteaww Thanks!!! I appreciate the vote!! Surprisingly it didn't take forever to make! I just sliced off a piece of a granny smith apple by eye balling it and it literally fit perfectly onto the tortilla! That was more luck than anything.. I bet next time I do a turtle shell I will need to be more precise :)
DeleteThanks! :)

ReplyDeleteThank you thank you thank you for the love! :)
ReplyDeleteWell - what's NOT to love about Larry? I can see why Eliana liked turtle-sitting him.
ReplyDeleteThe 3D shell really makes him come alive. QUIT beating yourself up about not drawing on his shell. That's the true sign of the perfectionist you are, but he's adorable just the way he is.
Tavette
