About Me

2012 Family Photo by Daniel Tedeschi -- www.danieltedeschi.com

Hi! I'm Michelle, I'm married to my college sweetheart, the love of my life and my best friend, David.  We have a beautiful two daughters, Eliana and Samantha (who was born in December 2013!) and a puppy named Mia (You can read all about Mia
here!)

**So welcome to Creative Food! My blog about presenting food in a fun and creative way!**

I never thought I was a creative person.  I always thought of being creative having to deal with something "artsy", like paint, watercolors, sculpting, clay, drawing, etc (i.e. things that I am not talented at. I can't even sculpt with play dough..so Eliana eventually stopped asking me to make things LOL...).  But what I discovered was that I actually love being creative-- with food! Eliana loves bread and could live off of bread alone if it were up to her.  So I began to present her fruits and vegetables in a fun and creative way to encourage her to eat them.  It has become an amazing creative outlet for me and it works!  Eliana loves it and it has encouraged her to eat different things and even try new things!

**Creative Food is also peanut-free and nut-free along with being cute and fun :)**
(Eliana is allergic to peanuts and multiple tree nuts)

I started this blog to share our creative meals and since then I have found some pretty awesome blogger friends who share the same love of creative lunches and meals as me :) I never thought it was possible to feel so blessed and supported by so many bloggers that I haven't even met in person (yet!) whom I consider close friends :)

But enough about all that. Because this page is supposed to be all about me... ;)

10 Food Related Random Facts About Me
1. I love to bake, specifically cupcakes. I used to dream of opening a cupcakery.. I still do sometimes :)
2. I hate yogurt (and pretty much anything with a similar texture). It actually makes me gag, and it always has even when I was younger. But since I know yogurt good for me I drown it with granola and fruit. If I get as much as one bite with not enough granola I almost gag again. It's probably amusing to watch.
3. I love oatmeal chocolate chunk cookies. I make two batches a month sometimes!
4. I like cold coffee no matter what season it is. On a very rare occasion I will drink hot coffee, but that is so rare that I can't even remember the last time!
5. I used to not be able to eat bagels. I never figured out why. But when I was in high school I used eat them on purpose and then go to the nurses office with a stomach ache to skip class... yeah my secret is out ;)
6. I love avocados but don't like guacamole. I could eat avocado straight out of the skin with a spoon and a little bit of salt. I feel strongly with something so amazing there is no need to add anything else to it!
7. I am slightly obsessed with kitchen gadgets and have dreams of owning every one I want (apple cutter, cherry pitter, pineapple slicer, avocado slicer.. the list is too long)
8. I love breakfast foods and could eat breakfast three times a day.
9. I love french toast. see above haha. (specifically the Challah french toast from Zaftigs)
10. I can't order at a restaurant without pictures on the menu. Seriously. I get order menu anxiety and always stick with something I have already tried, or is "safe".

10 Non Food Related Random Facts About Me
1. I am half Haitian and hope to learn to speak Creole one day. My dad never taught me, but there is something there in my brain! I took a two French classes in college and understood everything the teacher said without having taken French before. Easiest A's of my life.
2. I pick up languages quick. I picked up Spanish very easily and when I was on a missions trip in Brazil for two weeks I picked up Portuguese quickly too. However I need to keep up the language by being immersed in it or else I can forget! (I can't remember any Portuguese now).
3. I am always cold (I have tropical blood in my body!) In my perfect world the temperature would always be between 70 and 85 degrees. Anything below that and I get cold easily. You'd never guess I was born in Boston.
4. I have an optimistic outlook on life. Even when life is difficult I try to find the positive out of it, because it is much easier to get stuck on the negative and never let go of it. I firmly believe negativity can destroy you.
5. I have DPOCD. Dishwasher Packing Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It is not funny, it is serious. There is a right way to load a dishwasher and a wrong way. I apparently am the only one who knows the right way. And I will reload it if necessary, and then mentally attack you (person who cannot properly load the dishwasher) with ninja swords. You've been warned.
6. I am a recovering perfectionist.  That is also a very serious problem. Ever since I was in kindergarten I've been suffering from this.  I threw out almost everything in the trash if it wasn't perfect to my standards at the young age of 5. I would like to think I'm better now, but let's not dwell on that.
7. I love birds. Before my parents had me they had over 20 birds.  They downsized to one bird before I was born.  The love of birds was inherited because I love birds! They are unique and beautiful and I love to watch them. I especially like tropical conures and parrots. I couldn't wait to get my own bird, and I'm so thankful we had him for 5 years. He was such an amazing bird, but sadly I don't think I will ever be able to get another bird. I miss Kiwi every day.
8. I love to dance. I danced up until I graduated high school and still miss it every day! I went off to college and didn't keep up with it. I sometimes regret that but I will always keep Impulse Dance Center in my heart forever <3
9. I am not a morning person. I have been trying to "fix" that for a few years now.. I've gotten much better the past year though!
10. I turn into a crazy lady when i get hungry. I get "hangry".  I mean seriously. Do NOT mess with me when I am hungry. And I go from sorta hungry to "oh-my-goodness-i-feel-fatigue-and-will-drop-over-and-die-now-unless-you-feed-me-NOW" in a matter of minutes/seconds. I'm not very proud of that, but it is just the sad truth. I try to carry snacks to prevent the crazy lady from coming out :)

Thanks for stopping by and reading about my crazy self! ;)

  2. It was FUN and really NICE to know you better, Michelle! And yes, Perfectionista & DPOCD! I have to confess I suffer from that too. Oftentimes an issue at home. But I'm halfway recovering from it already. Hubby's helping by doing all the dishes at home, and the laundry :D

  5. I think this was a fun page - learning about you and your family. Oh yes - I can tell you're a perfectionist and that's what makes your ideas so cool. You think of all the details.

I love your blog and even moreso now that you've allowed up to "meet" your family. Thank you so much.
