Despicable Me Minion Lunch

Minions!
Sometimes you make a specific lunch just because your daughter says pretty please :)

Two weeks ago Eliana asked for me to make a Despicable Me Minion Lunch so I obliged.. (yes I know.. late on the sharing again.. seems to be a pattern lately hehe) Since I don't have a cookie cutter that resembled the minions so I used what I had: a circle cookie cutter

I could have used the circle cookie cutter and made the minions more oval shaped.. like a football, but Eliana actually enjoyed these just the way they are and they were really so simple to make! And of course you could cut out the shape of your sandwich with a knife or scissors but I prefer the simplicity and ease of using a cookie cutter :)
Both minions are open faced sandwiches: bread, ham and cheddar cheese on top. Each layer was cut with my circle cookie cutter. The glasses were cut from organic fruit leather. Nori would have been closer in color to the actual glasses but Eliana wanted the fruit leather :) The eyes are provolone cheese and mini chocolate chips. Their "hair" chocolate sprinkles was "glued" on with a little bit of honey. The mouths were drawn with edible food markers.

Because they wear blue I used two blue silicone cups and filled the rest of her lunch in there: Frozen peas and sliced plum.

So honestly I was going to chalk this up as a fail. To me they don't really look like minions at all.. just happy faces. BUT to Eliana they look like the minions and she loved them! She also ate it all.. so I think her opinion matters more ;) I did love how simple they were to make though! We haven't seen Despicable Me 2 yet but we rented the first a few weeks ago and all watched it together! Maybe we'll be going to see the second one soon! :)
